The Lords Prayer
Kindly provided by Keith Woods
From his address on Sunday June 11th 2006 Our second corner stone is the prayer Jesus taught which we know as The Lord's Prayer. Beyond a doubt this is the greatest prayer ever prayed. More people have been lifted by these words in the past 2000 years than by any other single prayer. It begins with Our Father and it is interesting that Jesus didn't say My Father but He said Our Father. This was the father of Jesus and God is your father and mine. That's why this prayer will never die. Every human being needs to know that he or she has value and self-esteem. When you belong to a family you know you are somebody and we all belong to the most powerful, beautiful family on earth. It is the family who believes in a God of love. Our Father in Heaven Hallowed be Thy Name. That word hallowed means honorable. Your Kingdom come Your Will be Done on Earth, as it is in Heaven. There is a culture that can best be called the Kingdom of God. People who belong to it believe in God. They are filled with His spirit of compassion, kindness and goodwill. It was this Kingdom that Jesus came to build. Give us This Day Our Daily Bread. God knows when we have need and He will meet that need. Forgive us our sins as We Forgive Those Who sin against us. That's when you step into the centre of divine love and when you accept the forgiveness that God wants to offer you for your sins and when you extend that forgiveness to those who offend and have hurt you. And Lead Us Not Into Temptation. God leads us into areas where temptation can be mastered or more appropriately avoided. And deliver Us from Evil. Is the final petition. When you and I pray that prayer and believe it we will be free from fear for ever. For Yours is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, for ever and ever. Amen This is the Benediction, the hope and the promise. Now Jesus Christ can say. Your sins are forgiven. No other person has claimed the authority to forgive sinners their sins. Amen Now, your scribe thought all that was really worth remembering. Amen |
